Not MST3K after all, but the next best thing

OK, so for detail sticklers, this is currently day 2 but I'm writing about day 1 (unless you count the day I arrived as day 1, but I'm not, so let's not quibble, eh?)

Didn't get a chance to commit anything to LCD last night and have been out all day today, hence.

A slow start really. But then I'm on holiday, so it's allowed. Most of the morning was spent drinking tea and sitting in the back yard. This is a mostly agreeable past time in Southern California, except that if you keep still you really notice the heat. The burning, burning heat.

A Back Yard, Yesterday.

Breakfast was a curious affair. Now I'm not proposing that I describe every meal. This is not a food porn blog. Just the meals and foodstuffs of interest.

Honey on toast was my chosen, but no ordinary honey. Habanero Honey. Honey with chilli peppers in. Hurrah.

So leisurely start ticked off the list it was time to go do a little shopping. Seems that this is a pattern - wherever I go on holiday, day one is buy new clothes. This is not because I'm the world's worst packer and turn up at my destination sans pants but because wherever I go it seems that buying things is cheaper than in the UK.

Started off in Target. As far as Target goes, I will acknowledge that it is cheap. So Yay! Target on that front. Beyond that though? Well, I did buy a belt. A belt is pretty much a belt.

So from there it was down to Santa Monica (stopping by the Thompson house from Nightmare on Elm Street first - need to get priorities straight here). Found a little boutique with a French woman who ran around finding things for me to try on.

Now I suspect that their typical customer would be a little more slight than me as at points I was trying on XXXL stuff. Having seen some of the folk around here, that has to be a flexible sizing policy. Flexible as in with extra panels sewn in the side.

Wallet considerably lighter but now in possession of two shirts, two tees and a hooded top that was shopping done for the day. And as I believe is etiquette for these sort of things, it's OK for me to say I saved $189, but should remain quiet as to what it all cost.

Hungry after our efforts, my sister and I went for some food. Trying to stay away from the food porn, but damn that was some good tuna. Half a salad between my sister and I and we were both full though. Seriously, that XXXL thing? Gotta be arbitrary.

So that took care of most of the day. Stopped off on the way home at Home Depot for a view of the Hollywood sign. They don't sell them there. It's just that the view from the roof is about the best there is.

I may well do a better crop than that if I get round to it.

On the opposite hill is The Griffiths Observatory. Heading up there later in the week so there will be more photos, but this is it from a distance:

As far as night time went we had tickets for what had been described to me as MST3K live. It wasn't, but you know what? Didn't really matter - it was pretty good anyway.

Instead of MST3k it was Cartoon Dump. Frank Conniff being the MST3K connection. I've watched some bad cartoons in my time, but nothing quite like Super President.

So that was the end of day one. I've slipped into West Coast time, like a greased hand into an equally greased glove. But that is being held steady by someone without greasy hands at a point with no grease on so the grip is rather firm. Damn. Poor analogy. I'll work on that.

More to follow when I've done more stuff. Otherwise it would be lies that I've made up.

If it makes you feel any better, XXXL in a boutique so a L or XL (at best) in a department store.
